It appears that banks have more than money in their vaults. La la laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Mike: Do you have gloves?
Salesgirl: For your hands ah?
Just five minutes ago:
Phone rings, I answer.
Man sobs in chinese " something something chu shi liao" (some person or other died)
me: hello?
Man: (repeats himself again, still sobbing)
me (in chinese): Ni da chuo hao mar (you rang the wrong number)
Man: ni guo lai la (you come over)
Then he hangs up.
?????????????????????????
I am waiting for GG205 to stream onto my computer (ok, I know my jargon is probably wrong but you get the idea).
I can hear snuffly sounds and see several tufts of fur poking out from under my door which means that Cookie is waiting for her breakfast.
Anyway, ALLUC doesn't seem to have the latest season of GG. Youku does. But for the longest time, I did not install the language pack so all I could see were little squares instead of words, which was quite frustrating when I was trying to look for a particular episode. So ok, I finally installed the language pack and viola! Now i see words....chinese words.... i can't read the chinese words...I CAN'T READ THE CHINESE WORDS!!
Me: "Hi, I'm melissa"
New person: "Hi" (shakes my proferred hand, then goes back to stand against the fence)
HELLO? Am I missing something? like, your NAME????
It means abalone.

Is it logical to order a low fat sandwich from Subway and top it off with a Subway chocolate chip cookie?
The TTP youth band performance at Outram is finally over and after this week, i'll be able to go back to hanging around the cafe after service instead of wolfing down my dinner. I don't know if there was any blood involved, but certainly there was sweat and some tears over the last few weeks.

This guy was positioned as seen in the picture throughout the entire performance. I may be slightly biased but even then, i don't think it was THAT disastrous!
Boggle?
it's been a mad week.

reunion of the rebel alliance * on sat night.
reunion with my 3 other SCGS friends tonight. Life's ups and downs have rendered us unable to meet up as a group of four so tonight's gonna be a first in about seventeen years.
it's been a mad week.
* which has since been disbanded, literally and figuratively
For the past two weeks, and for the many weeks and months ahead, Mike has had/will have to endure a lethal combination of
Kenny g + have yourself a merry little christmas + sax being played badly + notes being played wrongly
Chris might have a fit if he knew that I was using his sax to play Kenny G tunes. At least it's not as heinous as using a Steinway to play Richard Clayderman songs on.
Woo hoo, just dug up my dave koz cds!
Some stuff from today's QT on money, by Van Walton
ME: is this about me or the best interests of the family of the community:
God didn't give us money just to make us feel good. In the bible, money is used for things like personal care, paying taxes and givint to others.
What is the PURPOSE of the purchase?
Treat money as though it were a serious tool to be used for the following: Glorifying God, providing for the family, serving others.
i do not need a designer label bag. i do not need a designer label bag. i do not need a designer label bag.
strange marriage of surname and profession.
The djembe i used had little furry bits (near left knee)! One afternoon of kakas , ti tis, boms, a song called lolo = pair of sore hands.
is there time to
Learn how to play the sax(ophone). Why does everyone misread it as "sex" at first? I've got beginner's excitement after my first lesson with Dan (who turned out to be a young american married to a singaporean violinist instead of an old fart as I'd expected.). Gonna get my grubby little hands on one of Chris' "spare" saxophones tomorrow so i can honk away til my neighbours complain. Since my room tends to magnify rather than absorb sound, I've decided that the best place for me to practice will be in the front or back patio. If i were my neighbours, I don't know which I'd prefer, someone playing the drums or someone playing the saxophone. But since I don't own a drumset... ( It's still kind of ironic that the instrument which I'm most proficient at is the only one that I don't own.)
Take drum lessons: I'm still looking around for time and a teacher so I can upgrade my skills a little. Have definitely reached a stagnation point. Actually I probably don't need a teacher. I've got all the books and even some dvds.. but am too lazy to sit down and practice the paradiddles and stuff... argh... they remind me of scales! Anyway, i'm going for an intro djembe course later to learn some African drumming. Maybe it'd come in useful if the cajon gets approved :)
Do painting/ sketching: After almost a year's hiatus, i've resurrected the sketchbook, paints and pens. Still trying to find out what my best medium is, oils (messy, hard to manipulate), watercolour pencils (fun, but i don't like colouring), acrylics (hard to cover up mistakes), water colours ( too watery and indefinite looking), 0.28 pens (nice to draw tiny one-inch pictures). Favourite things to draw: junk food, and cats. Worst at: people.
Go wakeboarding: ok.. ok.. July. I will force myself to make a booking and drag myself down to Kallang. I kinda want to get back but it's gonna be starting almost from scratch again. Plus, I've already spent 1k on my wakeboard and stuff and I dont want to sell it cos i like my board. (ack, just realised that my board is trapped! Salt from the sea water has encrusted itself around the zipper of the bag* ...)
And then there are the new wii and ps3 games which just got passed to me...
The problem with me is that I like instant success. I want to be good at what i do, and i want it now, and I want to spend minimal effort. Obviously an impossible equation.

unlike maggi mee, there's no such thing as instant success, as i'm finding out the hard way.

The traffic, view from the safety of the taxi.
Cool artificial mountain at Xrock.
Guillotine from War Remnants Museum. I've got a thing for gore but decided it would be too disrespectful to take a picture of the deformed fetuses that were preserved in several jars.
Lunch near Xrock. All meals seem to be accompanied by a dish of raw veggies (coriander, something green and curly, and other.. green stuff, and tao gei) which you're supposed to... ? dunno. chuck into something. I had to make my own spring roll and I bet the people were watching and laughing inwardly cos everything i put in fell out as soon as i tried to take a bite.
Same lunch place.
Notre Dame Cathedral
Random building
MIke's breakfast. The fact that it was along the roadside, being cooked under a tree didn't deter him. Sliced pork in a french loaf.
MY breakfast :)
Lunch at Chinatown.
The view from our table.
Stall owner's son.
Cinema. Seriously.
China town housing
More China town housing
Look what I found at the supermarket!
obviously not quite in the habit of blogging regularly.
Will be heading to Saigon (it sounds so much better than Ho Chi Minh) on Monday via a budget flight, but I wimped out and booked ourselves into the Riverside Renaissance, a 5 star hotel :)
GSS pickings so far
1) nike top
2) adidas ballet flats
3) adidas water bottle
4) two pairs of shorts
5) 3 spag strap tops
6) jelly slippers
7) Loewe Nappa Aire KIDDING!!! I touched it, I carried it, I looked at myself in the mirror with it, and then I went home without it. I always wonder if high-end boutique staff can tell the serious buyers from the non-buyers (like me)
8) Two books: The Sound of Colours, and The Blue Stone, by Jimmy Liao (whose artworks reminds me a little of Colin Thompson's)
9. Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You On my wishlist. hoping I'll find it cheap at some warehouse sale. Those of you who've read Brian Froud's stuff will probably like the artwork here.
10. "dress" that cannot be worn except as a top
Damage to my credit card so far: about $300 and not $3200 (due to the omission of item 7, and not including my impending holiday, but even if I had included my holiday, it would still only be a fraction of item 7. My books cost the most cos they weren't on sale but i was in a "well, it's cheaper than the nappa aire anyway" mood :P)
